God Kills Children Part 1 – The Flood

God Kills Children - Noah's Flood

God Kills Children – The Flood

This is the first article in a series about God condoning or even committing the killing of children according to a literal interpretation of the Bible. When you take an in-depth look at it, The story of Noah’s flood seems quite cruel and bizarre. It’s told in Sunday school, but Sunday school teachers rarely mention the part where God killed thousands, maybe even millions, of children and infants. I will go over the story so you get the whole picture.
I should mention that not every Christian believes the flood was worldwide. Scientists haven’t found enough evidence to prove that there was a global flood. There were also other ancient stories regarding massive flooding, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh. In fact, the Epic of Gilgamesh was written before the Bible. Some believe that Noah and Utnapishtim (the man saved from the flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh) are the same person, but there are other flood stories.

Other Ancient Floods

In Greek mythology, Zeus created a flood and saved only Deucalion and Pyrrha. India has several flood myths when it comes to Hinduism. A man named Manu was spared during the flood. There are flood stories among Native American tribes where all but a few people were killed. I will hopefully write more about these stories in the future.
Some researchers believe that local floods happened at that time due to the melting ice from the last ice age, and that’s why there are so many stories of disastrous floods. You can find the Biblical flood story in Genesis 6-8.
It does seem true that many floods occurred during that time, but there was never a global flood. Now, many Christians will often resort to pseudoscience to try to prove their side of the argument, but most scientists tend to favor the view that there was no global flood.

Archaeological Evidence

Here is an article that takes the position that a global flood occurred. There is archaeological evidence that the flood happened. To read more about this, visit the following link:
Yes, Noah’s Flood May Have Happened, but not over the whole earth – https://ncse.ngo/yes-noahs-flood-may-have-happened-not-over-whole-earth
Just in case you want to see an argument in favor of a global flood. However, I do believe this is pseudoscience. Answers In Genesis is one of the biggest promoters of false science:

Sons of God and Giants

The beginning of Genesis 6 is a little weird—actually, it is outright bizarre. It starts by talking about how the “Sons of God” came down and mated with human women and produced offspring that were heroes of renown. Genesis mentions that there were giants before and after the flood. I wonder how they reproduced after being destroyed by the flood. But the Bible speaks of giants in other places that may have been over ten feet in height.
Genesis 6:1-4 – “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
There is a lot of controversy as to who these Sons of God were, but I may leave that for another article post because I want to focus this article on God allegedly killing children. Some believe the Sons of God were fallen angels, while others believe that this referred to the lineage of Cain mating with the lineage of Seth.

God’s regret

According to the narrative, people had become so sinful that God regretted making humans. I would think an all-knowing God would have known that humanity would turn out this way. In fact, from an evangelical point of view, they believe God to be all-knowing, including both the future and past. If this was true, then all the suffering we see in the world is something that God allowed. They defend it by saying that God gave us free will, and we can choose whether to follow him or not.
Anyways, God knew that he was going to destroy the earth with a flood before the creation.
Genesis 6:6 – “It repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
Because God resented, he wanted to destroy every living thing. He was even going after the poor birds. In fact, it seems that God even regretted making the animals and birds.
Genesis 6:7 – “And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”
God instructed Noah to build a giant ark and bring two (Genesis 6:19) or seven (Genesis 7:2) of each animal into the ark because God was preparing to send a flood.
Chapter 7 is quite repetitive as to what happened, but it speaks of the flood coming. It says the water went fifteen cubits higher than the tallest mountain.
Genesis 7:20 – “Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.”
A cubit is just under a foot and a half, so we can say about 22-28 feet above whatever the highest mountain was at that time.

God Killed Everything including the Children with the Flood

The Bible often stresses how the flood killed everything, but I’ll just point out one of the times:
Genesis 7:23 – “And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.”
Chapter 8 talks about what happened during the flood and how Noah sent out birds to see when it would be safe to exit the ark. I wonder why God didn’t just tell Noah when the land was ready for them to come out of the ark. I mean, God gave Noah instructions on building an ark, so Noah had to be in direct communication with him.
People seem to focus on how God saved a few people to preserve humanity. However, the dark reality of this story is usually not discussed among Bible believers, which is, if taken literally, that God must have drowned many children, infants, and animals in the story.

Fallen Angels DNA

One justification often used to defend this story was that the Sons of God in Genesis 6 were fallen angels, and their DNA was passed down through virtually everybody except for Noah and the other seven who went into the ark with him. They believe that the bloodline from the fallen angels was not fully human but a hybrid species of fallen angels and human women, and because they were of this bloodline, that would make them dangerous and more evil than a human who wasn’t part of the bloodline.
In Genesis 6:9, it says that Noah was perfect in his generations. Some interpret this to mean that Noah’s lineage could not be traced back to the fallen angels. I have put quite a bit of study into this and still don’t have a full conclusion. It does seem like the Sons of God were supernatural beings of some sort that could mate with women and produce offspring. (Note: There is a passage in the New Testament where Jesus said that when people go to Heaven, they will be like the angels and not get married, which seems to contradict the idea that the Sons of God in Genesis 6 were fallen angels).
As I think about things, I wonder why God would have allowed the fallen angels to do this in the first place. Why did he allow it to continue for some time before the flood? There is a book that some believe should be placed within the Bible called “The Book of Enoch,” or simply “I Enoch.” This book goes into much greater detail about the fallen angels teaching and reproducing among humans. Two hundred angels partook in this.

Evidence of Giants

I should note that no solid evidence remains of these giants. It’s also interesting that Christians dismiss other mythology that included giants, such as the Titans in Greek Mythology or the Fomorians of Celtic Mythology. Some conspiracy theorists believe that knowledge of the idea of giants in ancient times is being suppressed by the powers that be. I don’t know why anyone would cover this up. If archaeologists could find evidence that giants once existed, they would make a big deal about it. I’m not saying there were never giants; I’m just saying I haven’t come across significant evidence. Most of the evidence for ancient giants seems to be found in mythological tales that are not literal.
Anyways, God killed children along with all the animals that were land creatures with the flood. If God is all-powerful, why couldn’t he simply cause the people who were committing violence to die of a heart attack and save the young ones and animals? He could raise the kids if he had to being that he is all-powerful. The sensation of drowning is a horrible way to go. The US has used waterboarding as a form of torture to get information from foreigners. I take the stand that we should not be torturing people at all. Here is an article that goes into detail about the experience of drowning. Remember, God brutally murdered kids and infants if one believes that God literally sent the flood.
Some estimate that there would have been thousands to millions of infants and children killed because their parents were violent people.

Avoiding Hell

One of the arguments given for the flood and the killing of children is the idea that the children wouldn’t have been old enough to choose between Heaven and Hell so they would automatically go to Heaven. This is known as the Age of Accountability Argument. This argument has many flaws however. If children automatically go to Heaven, then it is better to die as a child. This argument gives the impression that if one murders their own child, that they will never grow to the age of accountability and therefore, automatically go to Heaven. Do you see the danger of this kind of belief?  With that being said, the Bible is against human sacrifice of any sort so don’t do this hideous act. I

Conclusion

I can find no justification for why a literal global flood was necessary to get rid of the evil people in the world. However, the flood still didn’t get rid of the sinister people. The giants somehow survived it and continued at least to the time of David and Goliath according to the Bible. While God promised never to flood the world again, he used the Israelites to cast judgment upon nations in the various genocides that took place after the flood. The book of Joshua goes into more detail about the genocides committed in the name of God. Today, we still see the conflict in the Middle East with the Israelites and Palestinians. I imagine things would be much more peaceful there if people were able to let go of their extreme religious beliefs.
